Libraries seeking Halloween costumes

BENTON AND BRYANT - The Saline County libraries are accepting donations for their Halloween Costume Closets.
The collection of children’s Halloween costumes will be available for patron checkout at the Benton and Bryant branches from Friday, Oct. 17, through Friday, Oct. 31.
Krista Petty, adult programmer and volunteer coordinator at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton, said this is the second year the libraries are loaning Halloween costumes.
“It went really well,” she said.
Children’s Librarian Randi Eskridge said the costumes have been cleaned and catalogued. She also said the library is still looking for a variety of costumes, but will only accept children’s costumes.
“We have around 35 right now, and we’re always looking for people to donate more. We have characters from a unicorn costume, to Bob the Builder, cheerleader costumes, princesscostumes. We have witches, Frankenstein. There are a lot of good ones,” she said.
She said the success of last year’s program surprised her. There were only three our four costumes left on the hangers by the end of the month, she said.
It’s a perfect way for parents to save money, she said, “especially with the economy the way it is.”
“My little boy last year, he wanted to be a pirate, so we had purchased a pirate costume. We had a party we went to thatwas Harry Potter, so we said he could be a dragon, so instead of buying a dragon costume, we checked one out from here.”
Costumes cannot be checked out until Friday, Oct, 17, and there is a three-week loan period. Individuals checking out the costumes do so with a library card.
The costumes can be returned to either library location.
