A late-night storm Monday ripped through barracks housing members of Arkansas’ 39th Infantry Brigade at Camp Shelby, Miss., leaving 14 soldiers injured after a roof collapsed as they slept.

The soldiers, with 1st Battalion, Charlie Company, were all treated for minor injuries and returned to duty Tuesday. Maj. Craig Heathscott, brigade spokesman, said most of the injuries were cuts and bruises, with one soldier suffering badly bruised ribs after the roof pinned him in his top bunk.

All of the soldiers were released from a hospital by dawn.

The National Weather Service sent two teams to the area Tuesday to determine whether the damage was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds. No determination had been made by Tuesday evening.
